The Roads and Contracts Department oversees maintenance of the District of West Kelowna's roads.
Asphalt and gravel maintenance is performed in warmer months of the year by AEL, a division of HMC Services Inc. (AEL/HMC) under contract with the District of West Kelowna. The summer maintenance program is designed to keep roads in good shape for several years, until they are due to be resurfaced as part of the Road Rehabilitation Program. The annual Road Rehabilitation Program is separate from summer asphalt and gravel maintenance services. For more information on the annual Road Rehabilitation Program, please click here.
POTHOLES
Potholes are formed as a result of poor drainage, due to clay soils, and freeze/thaw cycles. In the winter, temporary “cold patch” materials are used to fill the potholes to make the road safe. Once the “hot mix” asphalt plants open in the spring (usually mid-April) full repairs are completed.
