Regional Waste Water Treatment Plant on Gellatly Road
 |
|
The District maintains the vast waste water collection system that directs all of the waste water from homes connected to the system to one of the District of West Kelowna's 25 lift stations.
The waste water collection system was upgraded in several phases between Spring 2009 and Fall 2012, adding nearly 1,500 potential connections to the system in the Lakeview Heights and Glenrosa neighbourhoods. The project cost approximately $26 million, with $11 million contributed by the federal and provincial governments under the Building Canada Fund.
The lift stations then send the waste water through a forcemain to the Regional Waste Water Treatment Plant in West Kelowna. The forcemain is a large pipe that is settled on the bottom of Okanagan Lake.
The Regional Waste Water Treatment Plant is operated by the Regional District of Central Okanagan and, in addition to servicing the District of West Kelowna, it also serves Peachland and Westbank First Nation.
